Where I am with my workshop planning is that I'm discussing with the National Trust about using the Back to Back Houses, where I've worked before. I'm particularly going to focus on what's not there - sounds, memories etc, in terms of what's been discarded and I'll also be looking at discarded and disregarded texts around the city centre. I want to work with Mario Petrucci, who's a leading poet and also a scientist (three times over; he has degrees in chemistry, physics and ecology) He'll be working on this as an ecologist, looking particularly at processes of recycling in terms of, for example, creative redrafting. Hope to have my proposal ready soon.

Hello everyone - I'm still thinking about the details of this project - but I am quite keen to work collaboratively with someone, although I'm not sure who yet. My work tends to deal with sound and the organisation of it - I have constructed instruments before although I do think my building skills need work, perhaps if there's someone that has more experience of putting objects together - I'd quite like to use some 'junk' to create instruments, and / or create a performance space / stage using these objects too - perhaps using large objects such as a burnt out car as a large percussive instrument (I suppose we'd have to make it safe in some way)..

Anyway I'll keep thinking, I'm off to the Centre for Alternative Technology in Wales this weekend - I reckon that'll inspire some thoughts..

Cheers

ANOTHER QUESTION

Another question from me, I'm afraid. I've got a scientist in mind who I'd like to work with, a scientist who's also a writer. Is there likely to be budget available to pay a fee, particulary if funding comes from NESTA?

Jacqui (and all)

I think the term workshop is a bit misleading. Landskip's ethos is that artists are better employed making art than pretending to be community workers. I would rather that you simply thought of it as 4 paid days to kickstart a project, which you might want to develop further, and that socially includes a group in some interesting and engaging way in the making of your poetry/art/theatre/film/animation ... whatever it is you want to do! It really could be any kind of group of individuals that you think might be relevant to your project. Likewise if there is some site, organisation, 'expert', or other resourceful living entity that might better inform your work, chuck them into the recipe bowl as well, and then we'll go shopping together to make it bake (to use a rubbish, rhymed metaphor!). Recent questions from Jacqui which might be of use;

Hi, Alex,I'm thinking about my proposal for workshos and I'm hoing you can clarify a few questions. I think the proposal is for two days of workshops; is that one workshop over two days or a one day workshop repeated? Are there guidlines as to age/numbers of participants involved? How are the participants to be recruited?Thanks,Jacqui

Hi Jacqui

I think that workshops could either be the same and repeated to different groups or could have an evolutionary aspect over 2 days (or even 4 sessions) with the same group.

There are no specifics about age groups. We would need to ensure everyone has enhanced CRB checks for all workshops.

I think the number of participants for you to manage should be no more than 15 but of course is dependant on age groups and the site.

We will work with the individual artist to make connections with possible groups. It is probable that some workshops could be open to a general public.

Thanks
Alex
